<despite dairy elimination, baby still has some issues, so I suggested she also try eliminating beef from her diet.>

Has she tried soy too?

Interesting, I never knew that. I'll let him know because he'd probably feel better, LOL.

Target has a dye-free generic ibuprofen for infants, and it costs less than the Advil brand does, FYI! :O)

>>>>The human race survived and I don't see how that would have happened without widespread bf'ing.<<<<

This was the original point I was disagreeing with, or questioning. Back before we had birth control the only options were abstinence or bf'ing, assuming the early cave man noticed that bf'ing women didn't get pg like the other women. But for the most part, women were able to have lots more children. If a lot of them didn't make it, the human race still went on. Even know in developing countries, some of which have incredibly high infant mortality rates (60 or over 100 per 1,000 compared to our 6.71 per 1,000) those countries populations are still going on.

>>>>The piece of it that I know without doing research, however, is something others have commented on -- as a general rule, families used to live much closer together, often several generations in the same house, so some of the problems may very well have been overcome simply by having mom and grandma to show you how to fix it.<<<<

I agree, or maybe the sister or SIL who is nursing her toddler took over nursing the baby too. I think it's possible.

I think the main reason why women sought out alternatives b/c of the increase in women working.

I think they put the dye in so you can see it better, like if baby/toddler spits it out or doesn't swallow it all.

I'm sure you are correct in that not wanting to breastfeed today is far more common than in earlier years.
