I just finished the book "Room" by Emma Donoghue and wondered if anyone on this board read it.  It is about a 5 yo little boy whose mother was kidnapped and held captive in an 11x11 room for 7 years.  The boy was born in this room and has never been out of it.  It is completely written from his perspective.

The book is really good and touches upon the bond between mother and child, what "normal" is, and how we are shaped by our environment.  The normallcy this mother creates for her child in the most abnormal circumstances is amazing.  And she breastfeeds.

Reading this book reminded me of this board and the SAH/WOH board.  Just thought I'd share in case someone is looking for a good summer read.  Extended BFing is not a major theme, but aspects are touched upon and make you go hmmm....

I read it a couple years ago and really enjoyed it! I was particularly gratified to see how indignant my mom got on the woman's behalf when she was having to justify the fact that she was still nursing a 5yo. My mom used to push me to wean my daughter, but I think she understands now.
