Would you be interested in a "Battle of the Boards Post off?"

What happens is that we would designate a 24 hour period to hold a post off with another board - we can either designate one thread or we can have the CM put a post off folder on our board and then you just post like crazy all day long. Whichever board has the most posts during that period wins. Pretty easy, it gets super competitive.

I think it might generate enough interest to get the board rolling again. Is anyone else game?

The problem I see with it is that the concept of a post-off is pretty much antithetical to the concept of this board.

That is, most of the time people put a lot of thought and time into their debate posts, but that doesn't count in post-offs. Post-offs are about quickly posting short posts w/o much substance.

That's great on an EC or PG board, where chatting is the norm. On a debate board, I don't think that it helps bring people here to *debate* to have a quick chat post-off like this. I'm sure we could get people to post, but I don't think it will draw in new people who will then stay.

That's just my $.02 ... I'm not interested in a post-off on this board.

I actually think a post-off would be good to generate interest and knowing the regulars here, we would end up debating with some people from the other boards, and with those who chose to come by.

Just thinking on this some more - and this may not make any difference to your opinion on this idea - but I was planning that the Post Off would be in the non-debatable folder.

Not a debate, but just a topic that anyone and everyone would feel comfortable to join in. Like, what are you doing right now, what are your plans for the day, what was the funniest thing your little one did recently - or complete randomness? That sort of thing...

While I think it might be interesting, I don't really think it serves the purpose of bringing new people to the board (one of your stated goals) bc then it wouldn't really have anything to do with the debate. But a thread which did relate to the debate wouldn't be great for a post off, bc debate entails thought and care in posting, and long debate posts aren't conducive to winning a post off. So that's why I don't particularly see a point to a post off... either its debate and isn't good for a post off, or its not debate but doesn't create new interest for the debate board.

That makes a more sense, that you're looking for the regulars to post more rather than newbies.

I'm still not particularly interested. No offense ;) That's not what I come to this particular board for.

I'm not, but I'm too lazy for a post off. ;-)

I agree with Spencer. I come here more for debate and thought-provoking stuff, as opposed to socializing and chit-chat. I did come here for that for a long time, but since joining Facebook a couple of years ago, and being in touch with many online friends there, I don't do a lot of chit-chat on iVillage anymore. I feel like this board is kind of sacred for that reason? IDK, hard to explain what I mean by that, other than to say that I agree with Spencer that I just don't really come here for the kind of activity that would inspire me to join in the post-off. I have no qualm with one being done, however; please do it if you think it will work well, I just think I'll probably sit it out. I feel like it's a big time commitment as well.
