The CDC is suggesting that women wait at least three weeks after giving birth before restarting the pill because of the risk of blood clots.

I would think six weeks would be more practical to resume using birth control pills.

I had my husband get a vasectomy.

We'd discussed before marriage who would undergo permanent birth control.

I got Mirena and waited till my next annual, 5+ months PP. I could have done it at my 6 week PP visit, but I waited b/c I didn't want to risk any effect on my milk supply.

Which brings me to my next point - waiting longer (at least 6 weeks) is a good idea if you want to BF ... even progesterone only pills can have a negative effect, especially if started too soon after delivery (not in every woman, but why risk it). There's always condoms in the short term.

And abrose, I'm glad you had the option to decline childbearing in your 40's. I started too late to be picky ;-b
