Why are we here on this board? We all agree with each other. Routine male infant circumcision in the US is dying its long awaited and inevitable death.

When did we last have a pro-circ point from any poster to consider? I have done my best to invite any parents across iVillage with a pro or undecided point of view about male circumcision (infant or older) to debate with us.

I'm your CL on a debate board with nothing to debate. Some of you will say, again, that we have lurkers who will read and take in our information. But do we do it any better than iVillage's Foreskin Support board -

"You weren't around at its demise, of course, but she was the troll who caused it to be finally shut down."

I've found that that is their objective in this debate.

Another use for this board: when I have something particularly 'debatish' or 'intactivist' to say - I post it here.

I think I only briefly checked out the foreskin support forum. Reading this thread, I'm starting to think that that may have been a mistake. I think it's since I came across this forum first, that I've stuck to it as my primary discussion board for matters of circumcision, even with personal anecdotes.

I do genuinely want to debate the topic though, but I feel like those who take either a pro stance or an indifferent stance, don't want to play ball.

Christopher,

I have a couple thoughts on this to offer.

First, I think that a majority of those who are still "pro-circ" aren't really fighting for everyone to circumcise their baby boys, but are rather just fighting for the right for parents to make that decision for their own baby boy.

"There was one person who was vehement that a ban would indeed infringe on people's right to practice their religion. I asked, if I wanted to tattoo my baby all over it's body, or give it piercings all over it's body, in the name of my religion, if she would support my right to do so."

What a completely vile person.

Traci,

Thank you for your comprehensive, well-written post. (Very easy to read and follow.)

That is certainly the case sometimes but in my many years experience with this issue, I've run across those who want every boy circumcised.
