An American Tragedy

Some time ago on this board I posted a personal perspective on the USA's historic habit of male circumcision, entitled "An American Tragedy".

But the link I give below turns my efforts head on tail. It is the most astounding and compelling treatise I have ever read, equating male and female circumcision in defence of genital integrity for BOTH sexes.

If the comparison between the two has led some parents to discount male circumcision as nothing like as crippling as the female equivalent, this will make them take stock and think again. It's very 'readable', despite its length, with pictures and phrases that will keep you reading.

When circumcision debate boards were alive and active, one of the most frequent arguments from pro-circ advocates was that boys were 'expendable' in comparison -

It exposes the double standard better than I've ever seen it exposed, he makes all the important points. This will be very handy, and will go right onto my facebook status.

Much of the double standard spawns not only out of ignorance of the male anatomy, but also of the female anatomy. Sexual function is not obliterated when the external clitoris is removed. Every time we see someone say that female circumcision removes the woman's ability to enjoy sex, request that they provide evidence of this. We let them take that claim for granted, and we can't let that happen.

However, for any of this to be effective, it still requires them to be intellectually honest, and they may be asking too much from proponents.
