It's time to make a submission to iVillage. I will wait a couple of days for any further response from others and then contact Jen. She understandably has not responded to this thread, but she will have noted it.

Aubrey, thank you for the link and your excellent article.

Thank you, too, for your title suggestion. The term 'genital integrity' has been around for a long time in circumcision circles and it hasn't hit mainstream yet. (You penned your blog over a year ago.) I have used the phrase myself from time to time. Unfortunately its meaning is either not understood, which you acknowledge, or is itself a little ambiguous.

I'm reminded of being gently 'corrected' when I first spoke of a "normal penis" - meaning with its foreskin. I was told that because most American males are circumcised, a normal penis is without its foreskin. Ever since I have used the word 'natural' to avoid ambiguity.

Genital Integrity has similar connotations. It fits perfectly when referring to females, but not so flawlessly with males. 'Integrity' means honesty, truthfulness, honour, veracity... and so on. I have seen the word used in pro-circumcision circles when discussing the 'normal' American penis.

Okay, so I'm nitpicking here and I know it!

I'm very happy to use 'Supporting Genital Integrity' - but not on its own. It needs qualification: something that indicates our awareness of opposing views among parents with boys because their focus is on what they want - circumcision.

As parents we are the arbiters of our children's decisions. It's a responsibility with life-changing ramifications. I would hope to see this discussed too, in a new group... in anticipation of visitors who are undecided.

To ALL...

For a name to replace this board, or a new group with a new name, leaving this board as it is...

CircLeak is the latest 'xyzLeak' innovation on the internet and I believe it may be here to stay for some time.

Federico...

" We would then need to be prepared for a debate without our hands preemtively tied. Can the powers that be, as well as ourselves, guarantee that freedom in the new format?"

When I first made a decision, way back in 2002, to seek help online for my distress at being newly circumcised as an adult, all I found was Circlist and a bunch of American males talking about 'style' and 'effect' with graphic photos and ribald remarks. Naively, I had hoped for some understanding and serious answers. Instead, responses were along the lines of: "Hey dude! Quit whining, get a life and send us a pic!" I was very clearly in the wrong place, to put it mildly - and can laugh about it now.

So I found BabyCenter and its never-bettered 'To circumcise or not to circumcise' board. I learned about RIC in the US as a FACT. My disbelief of rumours we had heard in the UK was turned head on tail. I was stunned.

After some time in real debate with parents from both sides of the fence, I posted a thread entitled: 'An American Tragedy'. I still stand by its content.

Therefore, Federico, in today's happy climate of circumcision's non-debate, be assured that if I have any final influence in the formation of a new group, debatable content from "well-meaning" parents or individuals will be debated. I have said as much already. But the fine line between 'debate' and 'discussion' must promote our wish to explore and never denounce opposing views among parents who have chosen to circumcise their boys - or those who left them intact at birth but are now questioning or regretting their decision.
