So says an article in the online version of the Australian Sydney Morning Herald today (30/7/12).

For better or worse, it should be noted that the 12 medical experts conducting the research which prompted this stark announcement were headed by Brian Morris who is an Australian professor of medicine and a long-time advocate for circumcision.

If you are a parent or parent-to-be and are here because you're seeking support for your decision to circumcise your son, what is your reaction to the article? Do you believe that the wholesale removal of foreskins in the interests of health is as vital as the article suggests? Or are you more circumspect, believing it's an individual choice which parents should make for their own children alone?

Yes, I seem to recall you mentioning that you had shared e-mails with Brian Morris.

The Acorn Society, I'm sad to say, is British - as are the Gilgal Society and the Cutting Club. Morris is a member and associate of the Acorn Society, along with Vernon Quaintance (a convicted paedophile) and Jake A. Waskett (a software engineer with no medical credentials of any kind).

Jake's presence on the internet is ubiquitous, cropping up wherever circumcision is mentioned. He used to spend considerable time posting on parenting sites like iVillage. He and I exchanged many an argument on BabyCenter's old circumcision debate board. He's an intelligent man, but I'm still waiting for him to clamber out of the deep hole he dug for himself when I and others challenged him.

As for Morris, Quaintance and Waskett today, I fear they may have found new fodder for their predilection after the Sydney Morning Herald's headline article: Foreskins have got to go.
