Parents who might otherwise agree that circumcision is a good thing for their newborn son, often duck having it done because they feel that the experience will be too painful for him. This is a pity, so here are a few points to consider.

Thankfully medical thinking has changed in recent years. The 'babies don't feel pain' opinion has given way to one where local anaesthetics are almost always employed. Certainly to be sure, if can ask and check this out. Even prior to an injection with a lidocaine nerve block around the base of the penis, lots of boys are given a topical (surface) anaesthetic; EMLA cream so they don't feel the needle. You can administer child pain relief afterwards but babies rarely seem to need it.

Honestly, this was my number one concern in making my decision.

I was with all three (#4 coming in Jan) of my son's when they were circumcised. Each had a local and there were no tears and no drama. Each healed perfectly and #4 will be circumcised in the same manor.
