I'm sure that you are all familiar with The Elf on the Shelf, but in case you aren't, here's a link to their site: http://www.elfontheshelf.com/
Anyway, I'm curious about how you all feel about this holiday tradition. I've read countless blog posts lately from disgruntled parents and it is quite surprising to me! I've also read several Facebook updates from friends who are quite irritated with this "creepy doll" that "scares kids into behaving".
I admit that we have one and I think it is so much fun! The kids enjoy having him around and it is always so much fun for the to try and find him each morning. I'm having as much fun finding mischievous things for the little guy to get into!
What are your thoughts?

If it's your thing, knock yourself out. I have considered getting one and telling the family he's a serial killer elf and staging scenes with bloody decapitated Barbies or their stuffed animals shredded in the blender and little bloody elf footprints leading away from the scene of the crime, which my teens would enjoy but it all seems like a lot of trouble, and I have a lot of cookies left to bake.
