UPDATE 10/22/2012: Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life from cycling, the International Cycling Union said on Monday, Reuters reports.

Though Lance Armstrong has stepped down as chairman of Livestrong, some donors say it’s not enough of a concession and want their money back.

The disgraced cyclist gave up his prominent role Wednesday at the organization he founded to support cancer patients amid an escalating doping scandal. While the testicular cancer survivor said he’s separated from the nonprofit to spare it from having to deal with any “negative effects” of his controversy, some supporters are still fuming and want their charity dollars returned.

"The charity was established and publicized and got their funds based on a fraud," Michael Birdsong, a longtime Livestrong supporter, told CNN.

Yikes!  This story just gets worse and worse each day it seems.  What do you think about Livestrong supporters wanting the money back that they've raised/donated?

I think it depends whether the money that was donated actually went to support people with cancer. If it did, then there was no fraud. Good was done and it doesn't matter who founded the organization. If the money went elsewhere, then these people might have a legitimate claim.

I'm not surprised by all the cheating that goes on in sports, academics, and business. Disgusted, yes, but not surprised.

I think your donations should be made on the work and focus of the charity, and not the "credibility" of the celebrity "face."  In that regard, I don't think donors should be entitled to get their money back.

You are donating your money for a cause, not a celebrity. No they shouldn't get refunds, the non-profit is an engine for research and supporting cancer victims/survivors and their families. It is not the "Lance Armstrong fund". Just because he's a spokesperson for it, doesn't mean the money was going for him. Either you support the cause or you don't, plain and simple. If they want their money back, they can also make sure to amend their taxes to take away the donation deduction I am sure they took also.

I question the credibility of Livestrong to begin with. I am very leery about donating to charities and when I give I give locally, If someone solicits me for money and tells me it is for a good cause (cancer certainly is) you never know what % of your money is really going to the cause.
