Naked Pics of Your Kids Online?

A brouhaha broke out on Instagram recently over a picture of a 3-year-old eating ice cream while taking a bath. The issue was not about eating ice cream in the bath tub — truthfully I think the concept is brilliant — but instead, everyone freaked out about the blogger publicly posting a full frontal nude photo of her child for the viewing pleasure of her 25,000-plus followers.

Some commenters thought the picture should be removed because the image could fall into the hands of a pedophile: “Please take this picture down! Do you really know who can look/copy/lift the image and do whatever sick and twisted thing with it?” (The popular mom blogger who posted the image has since removed it.)

Others defended the photo on the grounds of cuteness: “It’s just an innocent child in a bath tub. I have many pics like this!” Those defending the picture accused the naysayers of trying to sexualize a picture that was obviously innocent.

Where do you stand on the issue?

I don't think people should post naked pics of their kids online.  I was reading a blog just the other day and the owner posted a picture of her with her daughter in the bathtub.  My instant reaction was- that just is not necessary. Nothing at all was showing, but to me there should be some kind of line drawn allowing your child a little bit of privacy. Little bum shots are innocent enough (bug again something I wouldn't share), but never should full frontal nudity be shared online in my opinion.  *shrug*

Why is this even a question?

Having tons of pictures like that of your own kids (the posters who defended doing this) is a far cry from posting them on the internet.  It's wrong.

I have some very adorable pics of my kiddos in the bathtub or with bare bums, but in this day and age, I would not share them online. You are just opening yourself up to all kinds of issues.

People need to know that those pics are forever!  Think of how it will be in say 22 years from now when that child goes for a job.

Personally, I think it's kind of pathetic that so many people feel a need to "share" so much of their insignificant lives with strangers.  As far as the "naked" photo itself is concerned I don't really see it as a problem.  As you said, it's "innocent"...and I don't think that pics of naked babies are what pedophiles are trolling for.
