There are warnings about not having your infant in your bed (co-sleeping). Too many babies have died this way. The parents in this story had a baby die, got pregnant and put their 2nd child in their bed, only to have him die as well. Should they be charged with a crime? Should any parents that have a child die in this manner be charged?

Sometimes bad things just happen. And there is no true reason why. And we just need someone to blame. Sometimes acccidents are just that accidents. But into today's world. We are always ou tto blame someone. Put thrm in jail or sue them.

My kids did some co -sleeping with us. Esp when they were infants because It was much easier to leave them with me in my bed  rather going to get them. Also as we added kids and room sharing happened it kept the other kid from waking up. Also as kids got older we would put them into their own beds to sleep ands they would some how in the middle of the night end up in ours. But then they do grow out of it. For us about preschool age.

True. OTOH, sometimes accidents are preventable, drinking and driving accidents, for example.

I can't see any situation in which I'd risk another baby's life in the same way a first one died.

<< Yea, Reports like this make it sound like co-sleeping is a bad thing. >>

It was, twice.

The key here seems to be that parenting under the influence endangers children.

I think the reason that the couple risked the second baby's life in the same way that they risked the first baby's life is that they were "high" on oxy. Their substance abuse is the problem here, however,

"Substance abuser is negligent and second infant dies",

while accurate, is not the kind of headline that entices people to read on. "Co-sleeping" is the term the media used to attract readership. It is a controversial word which both the informed and ill-informed will notice and read about.
