TIME Person of the Year- Who Should It Be?
Tue, 12-18-2012 - 11:41am

On Tuesday morning, TIME magazine's short list of eight potential choices for its iconic Person of the Year cover was revealed live on TODAY. The list includes Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo!; Mohammed Morsi, president of Egypt; Undocumented Americans; Bill and Hillary ClintonPresident Barack ObamaMalala Yousafzai, the student activist from Pakistan who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban; Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple; and the Higgs Boson and Italian physicist Fabiola Giannati.

As it has for the past 85 years, the weekly newsmagazine will select the person (or sometimes group, or thing) that its editors deem had the single greatest impact during the past year, for better or for worse. Last year's choice was The Protester.

Who do you think should be TIME magazine's Person of the Year?  Who/what would you give your vote to?

I see Obama was chosen. Looks like it was a pretty obvious choice this time around.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "pretty obvious". It is pretty obvious that he was chosen by Time, but I'm not sure he is much more qualified for this than the Nobel prize he "won" a few years ago.

Should have been Malia...a girl of real character and courage.  The only reason to appoint Obama as the person of the year is to acknowledge what a hypocritical, lying egomaniac he is and shine another light on how his ideological policies have damaged the country.

I'm sorta surprised, Didn't Obama already get this honor once? I can think of a handful of others that deserved it more but oh well, Time made it easy... Lol!

I wasn't sure before if person of the year was given to other people more than once.  But it has happened before--FDR was it 3 times and Eisenhower twice.

This is just something done by a magazine, not the Nobel Peace Prize. They also give it to the person who they think had the most impact on news/the world in the year. It isn't necessarily the most honorable, most heroic, etc. I saw a FB post where they said it should have been that teacher who died trying to save the students (even though there were 5 others as well, but I digress.) Even though she was certainly heroic and her story is tragic, she wasn't the most influential person on world news this year.
