Would You Let Your Kids Eat Here?

In celebration of its 30th birthday today, the restaurant chain Hooters is revamping its image this year—a more upscale decor and more healthy food offerings for a new audience: families.

Since Hooters is historically known for its chicken wings, its man-cave decor, and its scantily clad, big-breasted, tight-orange-bottomed waitresses -- plus its awesome motto, “Delightfully tacky, yet unrefined” -- turning it into an appealing place to dine out for mom, dad and the kiddos may seem odd to some.

But it really isn’t. Hooters has covertly been family-friendly for years.

What do you think?  Would you head to Hooters for a family-friendly dinner?

I'm a food snob, so try to avoid chain restaurants whenever possible. But when that's all there is, I can think of places that are likely to have better food. I've never been to a Hooters, but I can't imagine that place is a very good value, since the price of the, um, show, is included in the food.

I would not go to a restaurant named Hooters for any reason. Their exploitation of women is horrifying. And shame on women who choose to work there and allow themselves to be used like that.

Uh, no.  Not our style.  Proud to say that I've raised boys who also (ages 21 and 17) consider the objectification of women inappropriate and choose to eat elsewhere.  We've done lots of things wrong, but evidently we got that one right.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever been to a Hooters, I know I haven't been there with my family!  No, I don't like that slogan.  If down the road when my kid wants to go out to eat with friends s/he choses a Hooters who am I to say anything...
