This is just insane.. as it is I think the gas tax needs to be scaled back for a time. So.. I still have errands to run, husband has to go to work and drive for a LIVING. My gosh.. I can't tolerate some of the ideas that come from the Government sometimes. who in the world is it that are taking JOY Rides just to have fun these days? Who can afford it?
A Michigan congressman wants to put a 50-cent tax on every gallon of gasoline to try to cut back on Americans' consumption.
Polls show that a majority of Americans support policies that would reduce greenhouse gases. But when it comes to paying for it, it's a different story.
Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., wants to help cut consumption with a gas tax but some don't agree with the idea, according to a new poll by the National Center for Public Policy Research.
The poll, scheduled to be released on Thursday, shows 48 percent don't support paying even a penny more, 28 percent would pay up to 50 cents more, 10 percent would pay more than 50 cents and 8 percent would pay more than a dollar.
"I don't want to pay more, I don't think anyone wants to," said Karen Deacon, a motorist.
"I think that wouldn't make any sense," said Frankie Hoe, a motorist. "Ugh ... who's making the money from all this and where is that money going? Is it going to go green? I don't see any green things anywhere."
The automobile is the nation's biggest polluter; Americans use more gas than the next 20 countries combined

I sure hope it wouldn't pass.. I really think the PP had it right about the Elite not understanding the masses.
I don't know if
My husband is an independent contractor. The gas prices as they are right now have really damaged our profit. We are avoiding raising our prices as much as we can, but we don't know how much longer we can stave off a price increase.
When you think about minimum wage workers paying more than $4 a gallon for gas, you wonder how they can afford to work or eat.
Some of us live in communities where there is no public transportation and the commute to work is well longer than possible to walk. Many rural residents travel long distances to their jobs. The price of gas at this point is straining even more already strained budgets.

I agree.
This is nuts!! It's scary what the price is NOW, and to think about it increasing?!
I'm lucky in that I live in a small town, so I can walk or ride my scooter (bought for the sole purpose of saving gas) when it's nice...but on the other hand we have to go out of town to do any decent shopping. (Not frivolous shopping...GROCERIES)
It just blows my mind. We've got a trip planned this summer, we're doing Rt. 66. We have a camper, but decided to leave it at home and throw the tent in the back. (Saving gas here, and hotel $$). It was going to be 2 weeks, but we'll probably cut it back to one... and with the gas prices increasing by the hour, I'm considering going on our motorcycle/sidecar!!!
I'm not giving up family vacation but I'm damn sure gonna conserve where I can. Why should I have to penalize myself because of our govt's inadequacies?!
Frickin nuts.
I love my TaterTod!!
This is a politician's answer to everything!
Gas here is over $4 for diesel and about $3.50 for regular.
Mich
I have to admit, I'm one of those willing to pay more in gas that is cited in the article. Many communities are caught in a double bind. Everyone drives b/c there is no good public transportation. But communities don't develop public transportation b/c no one wants to use it. The current price of gas is incentivizing some people to walk/bike/buy more efficient cars/etc. Raising the price even more will create even more of an incentive to use public transportation
