I have to say, this is ridiculous. Ins. companies are so greedy and so unfair. It seems even if you are young, you can be turned down for Health Ins.

"Isn't it amazing that I worked lower paying jobs without healthcare and hey, I'm NOT dead! I'm alive and well, how 'bout that!"

You should count your lucky stars.

"I believe in insurance for catastrophic care. Not routine care--examples given. If you meet the established OOP costs for routine care--insurance kicks in. You know the way it used to be."

Catastrophic health insurance does not cover chronic conditions. We have been fortunate in being able to get jobs with employer sponsored health insurance, but as I'm sure you are aware, these jobs grow more scarce with every passing year.

"Side note: Four out of five? Sounds like family history to me unless all the kids are adopted."

Ever heard of Stills' Disease? It's extremely rare, and no one else in the family has it. No one else has hyperthyroidism. And Type 1 diabetes. No other child has been diagnosed with it on either side of the family, ever. Our family is part of a national trend in which previously rare autoimmune conditions seem to be becoming more common.

Many in this thread have said that I (or conservatives) just don't care about the poor, permanent disabled, old, unemployed.

I know our state covers disabled or ill children, as do many.

I had never heard of Stills disease until you brought it up, so I just read a bit about it.

Speaking from experience, it is absolutely NOT true that people in need can get help.

See the government determines who was needy of these, not me, however the programs are there for the very, poor sick child that I have been accused of not caring about.

You mustn't understand fully what "insurance" is.

You purchase it before you become sick.

Insurance is a business. Life insurance, car insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance, umbrella insurance......a product.

You don't get to buy in after you die or total your car or lose your house in a fire or flood, or get sued, and expect to be covered for the asset you now need coverage for. In fact attempting to do so would be a gross misuse of the insurance system. That is far more disturbing and unfair to everyone else who is play by the rules and who has paid their fair share of premiums. Not to mention it being flat out selfish to think you deserve a free ride. KWIM?

Just because you have no insurance doesn't mean you have no health care.
