This is just awful.  Is it too hard to ask parents to try to teach their kids to not be rapists?  I think what's even worse is some of these boys are as young as 13.

Stories like this make me think that there should be some kind of law made to hold parents accountable for the actions of their minor rapists (even though I know this is highly unlikely).   This is disgusting.

This is disgusting, and the Lt Governor of the State has called for a Grand Jury Investigation.  It was the local reporters at the Kansas City Star who did a thorough, expensive, and condeming investigation of this incident and brought it to light, and they have restored my faith in journalism by doing so.   And, just for the record, both Maryville, MO and Steubenville, OH, are north of the Mason-Dixon line.  I bring this up only to point out that this kind of bias and violence is not limited to one geographic area.

I hope the girl's family had the wherewithal to retain an attorney to file a Section 1983 action.  That was formerly known as the Ku Klux Klan Act.  When the state fails to act, just bring them into federal court and she will get back her civil rights from some deep pockets ~ the local, uneducated Missourian taxpayers.  A 6 or 7 figure verdict in her favor will hit them where it hurts, and they will start educating their sons not to violate a young girl.  You'd think that would be Basic Parenting.  I really don't know why anyone would choose to live south of the Mason Dixon line in 2013.

I am floored that the prosecutor dropped the charges with video/audio taped confessions. This is just insane, and I hope the citizens demand the state's attorney general looks into it. I can't believe that the townspeople would stick up for their rapist. I think I would be suing the homeowner who allowed this to happen in their home.

Maryville, Stuebenville, anywheresville USA. Interesting how many of these attacks and cover ups center around sports teams. You don't usually hear about this kind of thing happening from the French Club or Chess Team do you?

Maybe it is time to do some serious hard looking into what sports really do for our youth.
