Well, the reasons he chose her are pretty obvious.
1. She's all about the holy trinity of conservatism: babies, guns, and Jesus. 2. She wasn't Lieberman, whom the Republican party would never have accepted. 3. Anyone who attacks her -- like Biden, for example -- looks like he's being a mean s.o.b. picking on the poor woman with babies. 4. OTOH, if she attacks anyone, she's "feisty," a "pit bull with lipstick." 5. She's absolutely average. If Obama's experience is slim -- and it is -- hers is anorexic. However, the average-ness is what people love about her because she makes them feel like yes, they too could be qualified to run the free world. She's not a snooty elitist who excelled in his studies at Harvard and headed up the Harvard Law Review. Nawww...instead, she graduated in six years from an unremarkable university in an undemanding field, just like you, me, and most of us.
She doesn't make us feel as if being the vice-president actually means you have to, you know, LEARN stuff. You know...like the economy, knowing what "Fannie Mae" means, knowing that Iraq doesn't border Pakistan, knowing how many houses you own, knowing a good Sunni-Shiite balance in the Iraqi government, and other REALLY HARD THINGS. Nope, shucks, Sarah Palin says that anyone can be a heartbeat away from being President, even people whose total state population is less than that of Tucson, Arizona.
Personally, I think that attitude is profoundly, unbelievably anti-American. If someone outside this country came and tried to appoint a person for our president with the same qualities and qualifications, I'd say they were trying to destroy this country and make it a mockery of what it was, a mockery of the intelligent, intellectual men who founded it.
See, I DON'T want someone just like me running this country or prepared to run it. I want someone a hell of a lot smarter than I am, more diplomatic than I am, more well-educated than I am, more experienced in foreign policy, in complex and interdependent systems of worldwide economic policies, in history and geography than I am.
I think that this conservative cry of "elitist" at the slightest display of education or intelligence brings us all down, and I can only imagine that many Republicans who have worked hard for their education and experience would feel the same. Why wouldn't we want a president or a vice-president who doesn't come off like a second-rater?
I want a President who's better than average. If I'd want that quality in a doctor or a dentist, you better believe I want that in my leaders.
McCain's dad died of a heart attack at age 70 and his grandfather died at age 61. McCain has had several bouts of melanoma. As a melanoma survivor myself, I know it can strike back anytime and may be in the brain, the liver, the lungs and is fatal. As with many illnesses, the risk increases with age. So McCain may not make it through his first term. I am from Arizona and have also seen his temper first-hand. If the melanoma doesn't get him soon a heart attack will. Especially if he keeps eating the Sonaran Mexican food that he likes. And Palin is totally unprepared to take over anything big--they can't even let her answer any questions or go by herself anywhere. Open your eyes and look at the real picture here.
Ever heard of diplomacy? There's a time and a place for fighting but it should be reserved as a last resort. Fighting fire with fire doesn't help matters, it just creates a bigger fire. Aggression on the part of US leaders only tarnishes our image even more and reinforces the belief that our country is an international bully. I understand that war is sometimes a necessary evil but it shouldn't be taken lightly and we shouldn't engage other countries in some "I'm tougher than you" showdown.
" Because Ahmadinejad is such a wonderful person, he deserves to be treated with respect?"
There are many gradations between joking about bombing a country and "treating that country's leader with respect." Hopefully there are a few statesmen left who understand diplomacy.
*********You think a sufficient testing of a would be President is a debate with Hillary Clinton??? You honestly think that will prepare him to deal with Iran, Hamas, China, North Korea, Russia, etc??? *************8
I'd say it'd prepare him better than anything Palin has done. And by McCain's own words, the VP needs to be able to step in on day one as president. So she's kind of lacking in ANY skills needed.
The thing that bugs me the most is that people like her because "she's just like us." WTF would you want someone like Joe Blow in the most powerful position in the world?? Seriously? I consider myself "smart" in a sense that I read alot, I have a college degree, I score high on the online IQ tests (lol just kidding), but I am in no way prepared to be president of the US.....

Outraged? lol.. why is that? She has more experience than Obama and he's running for POTUS.
Ahhh judging by all the nastiness I've read/heard on Palin sounds like some are just worried.
most women would have tea parties with the enemies
