omg if you want shady associates let's dig up the Keating Five!!!

"Senate Ethics Committee found McCain "exercised poor judgment" in Keating Five scandal
In 1990 and 1991, the Senate Ethics Committee investigated allegations that McCain -- along with four Democratic senators, together called the Keating Five -- had exerted improper influence when he met with federal bank regulators on behalf of developer Charles H. Keating Jr., a McCain campaign donor and the central figure in a $2 billion savings and loan failure. The committee ultimately exonerated McCain but found that he had "exercised poor judgment" in the scandal. As The New York Times explained in a November 21, 1999, article:
Senator McCain had taken $112,000 in Keating-related campaign donations, trips aboard Mr. Keating's corporate jet and family vacations at the executive's Bahamas hideaway. While legal, these gifts made his attendance at the meetings with federal regulators all the more questionable. (The other four senators had also taken large contributions from Mr. Keating, some of them far more than Mr. McCain.)"
but truthfully I DON'T CARE about this association that McCain has called a mistake for $112,000, nor do i care about the even flimsier association of Obama with Ayers for $200.

BTW Ayers was never convicted, Keating was convicted. He ruined hundreds of people in my backyard - literally took their life savings. While you may think a bomb is the scariest thing you can imagine, think about going to your bank only to find the doors closed and all your money gone. it doesn't kill you but it makes living very hard - so I would categorize that as a different kind of terror.

The president of the Woods Foundation said that, not Ayers.
I was just pointing out that all politicians could be connected to shady characters.
nope wasn't disagreeing - just showing you can point to shady contacts on both sides - if you want to.
Bea
mom, I already did.
On his own web page, Ayers says "I have never supported or condoned terrorism or terrorists."
Since he was a member of the Weathermen, and has never apologized for being a member, he has proven himself a liar, since the Weathermen were terrorists and criminals.
true but neither was Ayers. which way do you want it?
Bea
to be factual, John Glenn was not convicted either.
but lets compare Keating to a terrorist. here's the description of Keating from wikipedia (the easiest source to get to quick)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Keating
"Savings and loan associations had been deregulated in the early 1980s, allowing them the opportunity to make highly risky investments with their depositors’ money, an opportunity of which Keating took advantage.
Some regulators noted the danger posed by these deregulations and pushed for more oversight, but Congress refused. This may be due, in part, to the Keating Five, five Senators — Dennis DeConcini, Alan Cranston, John Glenn, Don Riegle and John McCain — who had received, for both themselves and for groups they supported, well over $1 million from Keating in the 1980s as favors and political contributions. They later met twice with regulators who were investigating American Continental Corporation, in an attempt to end the investigation. (In 1991, they would be rebuked to various degrees by the Senate Ethics Committee.) ... In 1989, American Continental Corporation, the parent of Lincoln Savings, went bankrupt. More than 21,000 investors, most of them elderly, lost their life savings (in total about $285 million.)"
21,000 investors. Mostly elderly. It's not terrorism but what do you call it?
Bea
So 21,000 people lost an average of $13,500 each.
The Weathermen caused tens millions of dollars in damages, robbed banks and killed at least three cops.
Which is the greater crime?
Ayers was not convicted of killing 3 cops or robbing banks or causing damages.
Keating was convicted. and your math belies the fact that many of the investors lost much more than $13,000 - they lost their life savings.
which one counts as a problematic association? you didn't answer my first question so i have no need to answer yours.
