some people think that the assassination attempt had nothing to do with politics, but these republicans feel differently.

"In an email to the state’s GOP chair, Miller cited “constant verbal attacks” after his election last year “and Internet blog posts by some local members with Tea Party ties made him worry about his family’s safety.” Many of his Republican colleagues followed him out the door...“I wasn’t going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday,” Miller said. “I love the Republican Party but I don’t want to take a bullet for anyone.”"

"Meanwhile, AZ GOP state senator Lori Klein brought a gun with her to the state Capitol this week. “I pack,” she said. “Our safety is our personal responsibility.”"

i've read that giffors was support of gun rights, although had she been "packin" i don think it would have done her any as she was the first to get shot point blank in the head...

I don't blame him if he had been getting threats.

I agree.

I can't believe there wasn't at least one cop or some type of security there. They needed someone with a trained eye that could have picked out this guy before anything happened. Where was the blabber mouth sheriff on that one?

My representative also does these Congress on the Corner meetings and she said that there is usually not any security of any sort. The police department here decides if it is needed or not.

From everything I've heard, the shooter was wearing a "hoodie".

i'm sorry but i would not support this. or police dept. is stretched thin as it is, they cant provided personal security to every politician at all times.

Since mind readers don't exist, I doubt that would be an option.

It doesn't seem like increasing the debt is a problem with our government. But then again, they usually cut police and fire first, at least that's what they cry when there is any talk of cuttung spending.
