of particular interest is this quote -

Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

So what do you think?

Here is what I find laughable, Obama's plan is supposed to cut taxes to 95%, so the top 5% are supposed to be 'patriotic' and get our entire economy on the mend....They don't have enough money for that.

What I always find amusing is that the Democrats always feel it is patriotic for someone else to pay more so that they can spend more.

Anyone who wants to make a voluntary contribution to the government is always allowed to do so.

Its funny too because Biden just released his tax returns....I will have to find it, but he gave less than most and it was a significant less.....like under 1000 for the year or something (I don't remember the exact figure).

I think it's everyone's duty to pitch in and help out.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

< your money since the 1830s!>>

The Republicans spend as much (more actually), just on different things.

Did I say they didn't?

I think both parties are organized extortion rackets.

yes i consider it my patriotic duty to pay my taxes and shut up about it. yes i consider it civilized that people with advantages are empathetic and magnanimous and generous to people without advantages. yes i gladly pay for roads and schools and buses and museums and parks i will never use. yes i give money that supports people who lost jobs and homes and health and just grew old. yes i give money to support victims of crime. yes i give money to pay for a war i don't support. no i don't get a direct say in where each dollar goes but i vote for the people that do. sometimes it goes the way i like and sometimes it doesn't - i assume it's a 50/50 situation.

patriotism os defined as love or devotion to one's country. i don't consider it to be patriotic to complain about taxes incessantly and without reason. and i don't consider it patriotic to shelter income to avoid paying taxes - an all too common practice among the wealthy. i had 18 year old friends who were heads of corporations as a tax shelter.

it seems like asking an American to pay any taxes is a crime. but just as i think it is criminal to withhold financial support from your family, i think it is less than patriotic to be opposed to taxes as a general concept. if it's not going to take money out of your own pocket, why are people complaining other than to add to the noise?

and no, I don't earn more than $250,000 a year.
