Biden taxes "patriotic"

Can someone please tell me why the Libs are always screaming about "fairness" for everything, but then turn around and expect unfair taxes on the rich?

What I always find amusing is that the Democrats always feel it is patriotic for someone else to pay more so that they can spend more.
Anyone who wants to make a voluntary contribution to the government is always allowed to do so.
Trickle down econmics does not work for anyone but the rich.

So then is paying zero federal income taxes then "unpatriotic" ? Because I think it points us towards a slippery slope. Let me tell you why-
It's called having "skin in the game". It's pretty well recognized that when there is something personal at stake, i.e. your money you suddenly pay more attention, tend to value that which is offered, become a more active decision maker, because you have "skin in the game". It clearly drives attitudes and behaviors.
What we have created and continue to expand on is a system of givers and takers. In the 1980s roughly 18% of income tax filers had zero tax liability. This has crept up year after year. Not because earning overall are less but because the tax burden has shifted to those in high income categories. It is estimated that in 2008 40% of all earners will have zero tax liability. I believe last year it was about 36%.
This is a dangerous trend. Low income tax payers are much less likely to care about tax policies, wealth redistribution, the growth of governmental welfare programs etc.. if they aren't paying for it. That's why it's so important that everyone pay something--have something of theirs at stake. It's why we have medical copays--for example.
Every citizen should have some financial responsibility for the funding of the government. What we have done by removing and continuing to remove millions from the tax payer rolls is to create a country divided. Why should anyone with no "skin in the game" have their opinion respected at all? How does creating a system of givers and takers develop a country of mutual respect for all?
We value that which we pay for more than that which we don't. It's pretty darned easy not to care much about what happens with someone else's money unless of course you can vote to direct more of it your way without personal financial consequence.
