Biden taxes "patriotic"

Can someone please tell me why the Libs are always screaming about "fairness" for everything, but then turn around and expect unfair taxes on the rich?

They sure can since McCain (one of the richest men in Congress) is collecting his SS check.
OK - thanks for clarifying that, honestly I wasn't sure. I can say that I don't agree with that! (but I'll still be voting for him) :-)
Not that what he receives in SS makes much of a difference compared to the amount of money he's given to charity organizations. I believe the exact number was 28% of his income in 2007?

Last time I checked we lived in a capatalistic society, not a socialist one.
"People pay for what they do, and still more, for what they have allowed themselves to become. And they pay for it simply: by the lives they lead"

She was the one who made the glib comment but it doesn't sit so well when turned the other way, huh;)
Of course they are.
The social security program was designed not to be a welfare program but that is what Barack Obama intends to make it. Right now there is an earnings cap. This means you pay the FICA portion (no cap for the medicare portion) up to a set amount of income that is raised annually. Right now I believe it's the first 102K of earnings.
Now your benefits are also capped. There is a maximum amount of benefits you will ultimately receive as far as your monthly ssi payment goes. Obama wants to lift the cap but not the benefits.
Those who pay in the maximum collect less in benefits than what they and their employers paid in on their behalf. Those who paid the least in contributions get more from the system than they paid in. So it is still a welfare program in some sense as it stands.
Also, only the wealthy are typically taxed on their social security earnings. So they might get the benefit ultimately but if they remain high income they end up having to fork a chunk back over again anyway. Not exactly a great benefit.
How is it turned the other way? Honestly the fact that anyone who works hard to earn their money, hang on to waht they have for their own families, while still paying taxes - sits absolutely fine with me. I don't expect everyone else in this society to take care of me. I expect to take care of myself.
And yes, a capitalistic society does have taxes - never said they didn't. We live in a capitalistic society and we all pay taxes - that has nothing to do with my comment.
Gosh, not really.
Do the analysis yourself.
This short blip explains it fairly well. If his plan is to pay increased benefits for increased payments then it won't work if fixing social security is the ultimate goal. But then making claims that sound like they feel good but won't work is a common theme with him.
