Too late to drop him for Hillary.
~As a mom with a severely disabled child, I didn't even think twice about his comments.
You might want to listen to his words again.
of course perhaps you do not see a difference between "would" and "might".

Everyone who spreads the misinformation that McCain and Palin are against stem cell research, PLEASE take 5 minutes to educate yourselves. There is a difference between "adult stem cell research," which is research with stem cells from already-existing stem cell lines and research with stem cells obtained from the bone marrow of donor adults, and "embryonic stem cell research." McCain (and most republicans and conservatives who oppose stem cell research) ONLY oppose EMBRYONIC stem cell research. In fact, McCain's position from his campaign web page is clear:
"...John McCain opposes the intentional creation of human embryos for research purposes. To that end, Senator McCain voted to ban the practice of "fetal farming," making it a federal crime for researchers to use cells or fetal tissue from an embryo created for research purposes. Furthermore, he voted to ban attempts to use or obtain human cells gestated in animals. Finally, John McCain strongly opposes human cloning and voted to ban the practice, and any related experimentation, under federal law.
As president, John McCain will strongly support funding for promising research programs, including amniotic fluid and adult stem cell research and other types of scientific study that do not involve the use of human embryos.
Where federal funds are used for stem cell research, Senator McCain believes clear lines should be drawn that reflect a refusal to sacrifice moral values and ethical principles for the sake of scientific progress, and that any such research should be subject to strict federal guidelines."
What is more, if you look at results of the actual cures developed from stem cell research, you will learn the following:
From donmargolis.com:
Wall Street has been discounting Embryonic Stem Cell (ESC) company
stocks from 2004 through this summer when these stocks hit new lows;
– There are 2100 Adult Stem Cell clinical trials listed at
http://www.clinicaltrials.gov right now “for more diseases than I can count” said
Margolis, “and these clinical trials means two things: First, thousands and
thousands of human beings either have been treated, will be treated, or are
being treated in these clinical trials by the only stem cells with a chance
to improve their lives. Second, many powerful financial and investment
leaders are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to fund these trials.
They know that Repair Stem Cells are the future of medicine.”
– Margolis stated that “Embryonic Stem Cell (ESC) clinical trials are
somewhere in the distant future, waiting for someone to discover an ESC
which can be safely implanted into a human being.” Six such attempts can be
found at http://www.clinicaltrials.gov, but no treatments are even being
considered.
And from http://www.docguide.com/news/content.nsf/news/852571020057CCF68525741600511A24 an article titled: Stem Cell Implant to the Brain Helps Improve Parkinson's Symptoms: Presented at SIR (these were autologous adult stem cells, NOT embryonic)
And also, from washingtonpost.com, article dated less than 3 weeks ago: "Scientists Reprogram Adult Cells' Function". It seems stem cell researchers at Harvard "have transformed one type of fully developed adult cell directly into another inside a living animal, a startling advance that could lead to cures for a variety of illnesses and sidestep the political and ethical quagmires."
So everyone who is coming down on "the republicans" and "Palin" and "McCain" for being "anti-stem cell," that is misrepresentative, and carries an implication that is quite the opposite of what it true.
Don't just get your information from the tv--read the research, read what the candidates have to say for themselves, and read outside (meaning NON MEDIA CREATED) factual information on the issues from those at the heart of those issues.
associated with embryonic stem cell research.
nikki,
thank you for the wealth of information. however, Biden was being castigated on comments about Palin's position - not McCain. you did not reference her specifically and she has not shared positions with the media. this is the first reference i could find:
from: Sarah Palin, Andrew Halcro, Tony Knowles. 2006 Alaska Governor's Debate among Sarah Palin, Andrew Halcro and Tony Knowles . Anchorage, Alaska: KTOO Television.
"Palin stated in 2006 that because she believes embryonic stem cell research causes the destruction of life, it is inconsistent with her pro-life position and she does not support this research."
I can find no evidence she has changed her position.
Bea
bea,
first of all, thank you for a respectful and dignified reply. i have been posting all over some of these debate boards, and i was anticipating a little more vinegar than that, so thank you for basically making my night!
thanks for the source on Palin's position. i was partly responding to someone's comment that McCain was for embryonic stem cell research, and that Palin was not, when it seems they both oppose embryonic stem cell research, but both seem to support other forms of stem cell research.
thanks again,
nikki
I just have to tell you that your feet siggy is the cutest thing ever! So original, I love it!
Thanks! I took 3 shots of those feet. One came out. Pure luck. No idea how I'm going to pull it off again!
Have a great night,
