KABUL, Afghanistan – The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan warned Tuesday an American church's threat to burn copies of the Muslim holy book could endanger U.S. troops in the country and Americans worldwide.

Meanwhile, NATO reported the death of an American service member in an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The comments from Gen. David Petraeus followed a protest Monday by hundreds of Afghans over the plans by Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center — a small, evangelical Christian church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy — to burn copies of the Quran on church grounds to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States that provoked the Afghan war.

Of course not but as I said, we are above that. It would most certainly be news if a beheading occured in America but for Muslim extremists, it's not so uncommon. My point is that of course the US media is more apt to focus on events in the US. Then again, I know that I've certainly heard quite a bit about beheadings at the hands of extremists. Where would I have heard about it if not from the media?

"Believe me, there's definitely enough to kill as it is. I'm worried about creating more."

Ignoring/tolerating them doesn't make them go away either. I'm reminded of how plane hijackings stopped just after Reagan bombed Libya.

How is not burning holy books = to ignoring terrorists?

I agree. I'm not antimuslim either. But I don't see this as a Christian/Muslim split. The group we're talking about are what in internet lingo we'd call an 'attention who*re'. They're kooks looking for press, nothing more. Their Muslim counterparts that are going out and killing people over this really don't care about them burning the Quaran per-se. They'll be happy to use any excuse to riot/kill Christians, this is only

Didn't you know? It is already happening in Arizona. Apparently the crime rate is so high in Arizona they're finding headless bodies in the desert. That's what the governor there admitted. Why the findings never made national news is beyond me. I can only assume that the media didn't want to further frighten people about the horror of living in or visiting Arizona. ;-)
