Apparently we'll be hearing more in the days to come, but in the meantime, McCain's own campaign

You know, when my kids were small and they heard me say things like that, at the time I didn't realize that they were taking me literally.

I don't think he picked her to sway the Hillary voters. No real Hillary supporter could vote for such a conservative woman as Sarah Palin. I honestly think he picked her to pander to the base, especially because her son was going to Iraq, which I think is equally as deplorable. There were several other female Republicans he could have chosen, but she had the hockey mom thing going and I think that's ultimately why she was chosen. Plus, it looked good on paper that she had an 80% approval rating.

Although I think Sarah Palin was grossly underqualifed and in some ways downright ignorant, I don't think that she can be held solely acountable for McCain's loss.

I agree completely. She was only involved in the campaign for 3 months; he was in charge of the campaign for more than a year before that. Ultimately, the blame lies with Sen. McCain. He chose what strategy they would use and he chose Gov. Palin as his running mate without proper consideration.

His choice illustrated how far out of touch he and his campaign advisor's really were. I honestly believe they thought they would get the undecided female vote - (my evidence is the almost 3 calls per night to my home from the RNC touting how as a professional educated woman I should be on board with the McCain Palin ticket. Made me want to puke. While they may not have believed they would get the true liberal hillary supporters I think they mistakenly thought they would get the female vote from women who would love to see a woman at that level of office. While I would love to see a woman at that level of office, She has to be qualified - nothing irks me more than a woman getting a position because she is a perky soccer mom (BLECH)

while i dont think a true hrc supporter would have gone for mccain, i do think the intention was to sway people who were voting hrc just b/c she was a woman.

i think she was chosen as the mccain ticket's token of 'change' while appealing to the religious conservatives.

~I am not a fan of the woman but I am sure she is not the ONLY reason Sen McCain lost.

That I totally agree with. I think he chose her instead of another woman though because of her family, especially her sons. I will never forget the first speech she gave that Saturday morning. She was introducing her family and she praised her son Track for going to Iraq and praised her special needs baby, Trig, and then briefly mentioned each of the girl's names without going in depth on them at all. I instantly got the feeling that they were using her son being a soldier and her other, special needs son to garner sympathy and support.

I don't think that McCain would have gotten as many votes if not for Palin.
