WASHINGTON - One month before Election Day, Barack Obama sits atop battleground polls in a shrinking playing field, the economic crisis is breaking his way and he has made progress toward winning the White House.
The onus is on Republican John McCain to turn the race around under exceptionally challenging circumstances — and his options are limited.
McCain's advisers say the Arizona senator will ramp up his attacks in the coming days with a tougher, more focused message describing "who Obama is," including questioning his character, "liberal" record and "too risky" proposals in advertising and appearances.

but that can backfire as most strategists know. in a tight race, a slight lead may lull the lazy voters into thinking they don't need to make the effort.
if that is a bias in the polls that is mean to help, i don't think it will.

Sadly I think there's been a lot more mud-slinging coming from the McCain camp and unfortunately it only going to get worse. And as far as polls are concerned, I personaaly don't put much stock in them but I do find it funny how much emphasis republicans seemed to put on the polls right after McCain named Sarah Palin as his running mate and his poll numbers went up. Now that he's not doing as well the polls seem to be dismissed.

Funny, there hasn't been any mud-slinging until now that McCain has sent Palin out to make these unsubstantiated allegations about a man who bombed places when Obama was just 8 years old.
Personally, I think Obama and Biden deserve medals for their restraint in not mentioning McCain's criminal role in The Keating Five, where McCain and others should have gone to jail.
