Conservative pundits take anti-war stance
By Michael Calderone
Ann Coulter is no dove. She vigorously supported the Iraq
Steele makes one itty-bitty comment to prevent Barry's usual "It's Bush's fault"
<<Afghanistan (war in general) and the economy are things the democrats are really really bad at managing and after a year and a half it's time for Barry (and democrats in general) to put on their big boy pants/panties on and take responsibility for a change.>>
IYO, what has Obama done wrong in Afghanistan and how would Republicans have managed it better? Please be specific. TIA
Yes! I see no upside to staying in Afghanistan and conducting major operations. If the old USSR couldn't tame Afghanistan, what makes it any more doable for the US? Plus, if the goal is to take away a safe haven for terrorists, it sounds like a really weak reason. The terrorists can just move to another failed state like Somalia or Yemen. Are we going to conduct wars in every failed state simultaneously to completely eliminate the safe haven issue? And...this business with "winning," what can be won?
I'd have to agree. I supported Obama sending more troops though because if we were going to truly refocus on this war then it couldn't be done half-assed. We needed more boots on the ground. KWIM? For me it's kind of like Iraq...I didn't support the invasion but once we were there, I supported the troop surge. I guess for me, it's all or nothing. Give it all we got or get out. To be honest though, I would have preferred if we had gotten out of both Iraq and Afghanistan but I don't think Obama would have been able to swing that. I don't even know that he could have won the election if he suggested pulling out of both countries. There were too many moderates who felt that Afghanistan was the 'right war' to be in (myself included at one point).
"What do you mean?"
Barry claimed he was going to have the troops in Iraq moved out within 10 months of being elected.
"IYO, what has Obama done wrong in Afghanistan and how would Republicans have managed it better?"
For one, Barry's been all over the field on this one. He even had a short-lived proposal where troops wouldn't be so 'threatening' if they exited their vehicles and engaged the lovals on a personal level more often. Talk about crazy plans.
Secondly, Barry's given the clear signal he's not interested in staying in Afghanistan until the job is done. It's undermined the efforts being done there.
Those are two areas republicans wouldn't have come close to messing up.
