This is a topic I have been going back and forth on. I used to be totally for the death penalty. For me it actually has a religous side. If you commit a crime you should make restitution and then repent. That is why I believe there aren't worse crimes than murder or rape. How do you make restitution? The life of the guilty would be a token to God as a sort of restitiution on behalf of victom. (This is how I can still be against abortion. An unborn baby didn't do anything wrong.) Now I realize most people don't feel this way, and ones belief in God should not determine this issue. What is better for society? If the system were perfect then I would say the death penalty should be used. It is telling those who choose to kill are forfitting their right to be a part of society. Well some say, just lock them up for life with no chance for parole. One side of me says that would be great because it would cut a lot out of the appeals system freeing up the courts. It would also save money. It would also allow a chance for those who are innocent to get out. But what happens to these people who live day after day knowing they will never leave. What motivation do they have to behave? What if they ask to be executed? (I for one would rather die than spend 50 years in jail.)
I am not only for the death penality, I believe that if more then three credible eyewitnesses saw you do it, you should go to the fron of the line. There may not be a deterent to crime, but at least there are less criminals on the street.

;-) or maybe it means I am a *gasp* moderate conservative?!?!?
I don't think it makes you a hypocrite - it makes you human.
I use to want to be an executioner.
I thought it would be neat to rid the world of evil.
I grew out of it though.
