Democrats please Answer!

When Obama created his entire campaign based on three things which he now will not or cannot do what is happening for his supporters now?

He said he would pull out of Iraq, now clearly that is NOT his plan, and he also plans to send four times the troops to Afganistan and also attack Pakistan.

He can NOT do anything about HEALTHCARE, he knows this, regardless of the fact that all his plan boiled down to was a 2,500 dollar tax credit per family for medical related expenses, that is FAR from insuring 330 million people and 64 million illegal aliens.

He said he would cut taxes for the middle class, which can not be done now that we are having to take this bailout which all the Democrats are pushing the hardest for, since so many are tied to the bailout in a personal way like accepting lobbyist money or kick backs and also having their part in blocking regulations on subprime loans.

I would like to know other than Obama being black which is the appeal for some, and other than him being young and inexperienced what is the huge attraction? He endorsed many of Bushes policies including the wire tapping. He also voted MORE with party lines than John McCain and he also voted 94 times to raise taxes on those making over 42,000 dollars...so WHY is he better to be President?

Oh, THEY aren't creating any problems--THEY are taking advantage of our system because of the problems WE have created for OURSELVES

Show me where anyone said they weren't creating any problems.

I agree that illegals are a drain on our system. To me, the issue is how to stop it in a way that is cost effective for taxpayers, and doesnt make everyone's (citizens and illegals) situation worse. IMO the best places to stop illegal immigrants are 1) at the border and 2) with their employers. If they cant get jobs they wont come. If they cant get across the border, they wont come.

"We deny most of our citizens healthcare--it's not a right of citizenship to have healthcare."

Actually, insured or not, money or no, if anyone shows up in an emergency room needing care, the hospital has to treat them. My point is that it is cheaper to provide basic preventative care than wait for people to show up in the emergency room. Sure, we can complain that we shouldnt be paying for this care, but where does that get us? We already are paying for their care in increased healthcare. I, for one, would rather people be healthy (from a human rights standpoint) and that people be treated for communicable diseases so they arent spreading them (that's my mommy standpoint).

"As far as education--the adults illegals trying to find work aren't also trying to get a GED. They stay at their 7th grade education and drain our systems."

That is a HUGE generalization. There are hard workers and coasters among illegals - just like any other group.

"And finally, if we take away their "right" to free education, free public assistance, and free healthcare, it might remove the incentive to come here in the first place. "

I agree with you IRT public assistance. But with education it just isnt that simple. What are the consequences for taking away the right to an education? How do you justify not educating children? Especially since you complained the illegals are NOT trying to get an education? You cant have it both ways. What are the consequences? If we're going to deport them, then deport them. But to allow them to stay and not educate them is asking for disaster - what is a child's alternative without an education. Crime? Drugs?

Plus, we still need to do something with the people who are already here. Many of them have children who - like it or not - are US citizens. Do we deport their parents? Do we deport all illegals? Regardless of how long they have been here? I understand not wanting to reward them for breaking the law, but again, where is the benefit to the rest of us? How much would it cost to deport MILLIONS of people? It seems like a much better alternative is giving them the right to stay in the US, work legally, pay taxes, and contribute to our society. Even if it's galling that they broke the law to get here.

First, great siggy!

And second, I agree with most of what you posted. My position isn't so much that we DO the things we "should," but I guess I'm stuck with what the BLEEP do we do now that we're past that point of no return!

I enjoy your intelligent insights--we seem to agree more than not on this issue (although possibly only on this issue ;^) ). I sometimes voice some very extreme sentiments, but I also appreciate that it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to rigidly enforce ANYTHING at this point, whether I believe it "should" be enforced or not!

Thanks for a stimulating and RESPECTFUL dialog--it's not always that way around here!

aww, (blush) Thanks.

I have always considered myself a liberal, but if I'm honest with myself, with age I have become much more of a pragmatist. I still lean liberal, but not as much as I used to. Who knows, maybe we'll agree again some day :)

But the fact remains that illegals so steal SSN's....and lie on forms to get social services.

I will admit I don't know if this source is reputable....or unbiased..but it looks legit. Just a few numbers for you.
