Does It Seem Odd To You?

Do you think it's at all odd that the woman who screeches about the Fairness Doctrine will not allow lights and/or cameras in the House of Representatives?

I'm just sayin...

"I agree that it's a long term problem, but what do you propose we do in the meantime?"

I'm a big fan of the hydrogen car. They're already in existence (Ford, BMW, Honda, GM already have them) so it wouldn't take years to come up with a workable engine. They are incredibly efficient, they don't produce harmful emissions (extra bonus!), and could bring us away from being dependent on fossil fuels.

The problem is that there's big money in oil, and the oil companies have much of the government in their pocket (or should I say bank vault) so I don't see it going that way without a fight.

One reason given for not going to hydrogen was that it would cost a lot of money to change the gas stations to the kind needed for hydrogen cars, but if we're talking about putting a ton of money into drilling new areas, and ruining eco-systems while we're at it that could have all kinds of long-term unforeseen problems attached (haven't we learned by now?), then why don't we put that money into changing/creating the stations needed instead? It's like Field of Dreams. Build it and they will come.

"The fact remains that the alternatives won't be available for many years to come"

Actually there are alternatives available right now, this very minute. They've been in the works for over a decade. There's no "not working out" there's just the need to switch over, which won't happen when we have an oil man in the White House. Too much money to be made in the oil industry.

"Also, the people in charge of Iraq have asked us to leave. Why, are we still wanting to force ourselves on them?"

I believe we were never invited in the first place. We're just party-crashers. ;)

"I guess people driving huge SUV's and not conserving has anything to do with it."

My favorite excuse to hear for driving around your 2 small children in a giant SUV is that it's safer. Safer from what? All the other giant SUVs?

"Thre will be now forms of alternative fuel if we drill because people will forget about it."

Exactly. People will think, "Oh, there's not a problem" and go on guzzling their gas. Until the next time. It's funny when you look at news issues 10 years ago. 15 years ago. More. You could practically interchange the headlines with today.

"Drill now...look for other sources...pretty cut and dry."

You mean waste a ton of money and destroy eco-systems that will never recover so they we can not feel so pressured to find other sources? Sometimes being under pressure is what it takes to get things done, to make major changes.

"It's flip flopping when you change your opinion/policy/ideals to reflect what the constituents are saying."

But aren't those we elect SUPPOSED to do what the constituents want? Why would we elect someone who will do whatever they please, no matter what the general public says?

"The only thing McCain has proposed that I'd be in favor of is doubling the child dependent credit. It would help my son a lot."

I could go for that. Kids are spendy! I'm not a total McCain hater, and it's sad that this country has turned into one where we have to hate one if we are for the other. I certainly don't think McCain is as horrible as Bush has been. I also think with this silly two party system we have people feel obligated to completely back their party's candidate no matter what, while completely hating the other party's candidate. Honestly, i don't think any candidate or politician (or party, or person, or government system for that matter) is completely correct. I choose based on that particular person's ideas, not just because they happen to be part of a particular party. I wish more of the country could do that. I also wish we could get a couple more parties in there. And I don't mean a "token" party like the green party.

"Yes but what if his real thoughts are nothing what he has told us until he has taken office?"

Why would that be true of Obama and not McCain? Or anyone who's every run for any political office?
