I get so tired of this kind of stuff. I'll stop now because I don't want to write something really ugly about the people who try to stop research.

How very sad. My uncle is currently dying of Parkinson's. Before he started his massive deterioration, he hoped that one day no one else had to suffer as he has and hoped they could use stem cells to cure this disease. He is no longer very coherent, and will have to be put into a nursing home soon. But he had that hope, like many others with awful illnesses..that maybe one day a cure can be found.
I hope for this day as well.

I think that research will continue without US federal funding in private laboratories and in foreign countries. I think it is sad that we're willing to wash those embryonic stem cells down the drain rather than use them (with federal funding) to expand our understanding of cellular function and to maybe (someday) provide therapies for diseases like Parkinsons.

I, personally, am glad that the court chose to uphold the law.

I wish all illnesses had a cure. I'm not sure why you state that we will have to let other countries take the lead in the research, there is still private funds and donations able to go towards research.

We banked DD's cord blood, stem cells, and when she turns 18 we either have to continue to pay for the banking (we are paid up until then) or we can have it donated to research. Also parents who do IVF and decide to not continue that path can also donate.

Donations will still happen, and from previously working at a site where they did medical research on cancer, there is always funds.
