The quick summary is Halliburton should be a non-issue. Dick Cheney had severed ties with Halliburton prior to accepting his job as VP and he has not/is not receiving any financial benefit from the later Halliburton excesses.
Halliburton was the only company capable of taking on the Iraq contract - why anyone would suggest the government should take bids on any project from companies that could not fulfill the need is beyond me - like saying you'd consider an RN for your heart surgery because she might be cheaper and you wouldn't want the only heart surgeon in town to have a monopoly on the business?
