Georgia 'under attack' as Russian tanks roll in

TBLISI, Georgia (CNN) -- Georgia's president said Friday that his country is under attack by Russian tanks and warplanes, and he accused Russia of targeting civilians as tensions over the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia appeared to boil over into full-blown conflict.

Yes it could get ugly....but I'm not an expert on Russia and what is going on between them and Georgia, so I'll need more information before I make more opinions.

There's a good article on the front page of Today's Wash Post that explains it.

So, Jane..how far do you think we are going to get drug into this? Do you think there is going to be some sort of fragile cease fire eventually here that will hold up for a short period of time, before it all erupts again? Do you think Georgia will eventually have to give up South Ossetia and the other breakway province if they want peace?

I know the timing on part of Georgia was not coincidental in trying to regain South Ossetia..I just can't help but worry now that they have possibly started something they can't finish alone.

TBILISI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russian fighter jets targeted the the major Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which carries oil to the West from Asia but missed, Georgia's Economic Development Minister Ekaterina Sharashidze said on Saturday.

"This clearly shows that Russia has not just targeted Georgian economic outlets but international economic outlets in Georgia," she said at a news briefing.

There have been no independent verifications of Russian jets targeting the BTC pipeline

I'm also not "up on" Russian/Georgian politics, thanks for the info.

Last night during the Olympic opening ceremonies, it was mentioned when the Russian team marched.
