You and me both, re American Cancer Society... My mother died of breast cancer way before Komen and when I think of organizations that support the "cause" that's the first one that comes to mind!

You realise that people actually take that argument back in time to the point of questioning the morality of some contraceptives, and wish to ban them. A few current presidential candidates sing this song.

Since awareness of pregancy cannot possibly fall close to fertilisation, it sure as heck seems an unreasonable standard on top of control of body issue.

Which is why I maintain where those who oppose could have the biggest impact, since we won't ever get everyone on the same page, is to prevent unwanted pregnancy from occurring. Instead of lip service and a whole lot of contentious noise, they could actually team with those pro choice and accomplish something meaningful and in actuality.

Yes, you might be surprised that being a conservative does not mean that we do not stay aware of politics and history just as much as anyone else. ;)

I know, you are right, we will never all agree but I cannot stand behind an organization that offers abortions. Period. Let me take it one step further to say that just because I do not stand behind PP does not mean I do not stand behind another group, be it even a small hometown one, that helps women become educated and provides help/contraception short of abortion. Liberals do not hold the market on helping one another; if anything, wanting life for everyone is a pretty big deal, and that is what is shoved under the rug when we are being negated for taking choice away from women. We want choice for the baby too.

No point in going on further about it, I cannot explain it any better than I already have and my feelings will not change either.

That's so weird, because to me (and I used Planned Parenthood for two to three years on a regular basis), the face of Planned Parenthood was one of being able to get exams, get Pap smears, get birth control, and get prescriptions for yeast infection meds. When a Pap smear revealed pre-cancerous cells, they referred me to a gynecologist who provided services to me at a reduced rate to freeze the cells of my cervix, likely preventing me from developing cervical cancer. That's what Planned Parenthood is to me. Not once did I see anything about abortion in their offices, nor did anyone ever talk to me about one. That's NOT what Planned Parenthood is about. Too bad too many people don't want to hear from actual people who have utilized Planned Parenthood's services and instead make characterizations about PP that don't have much basis in fact.

IMO, I've never thought of PP as FOR abortion.

I think we have all heard about it, over and over. Problem is, PP still provides abortions, so people can tell us until they are blue in the face about all the other stuff does (even though we already know) but if they are still providing abortions, we are still going to know that it is a fact that they provide abortions.

I get that you abhor abortion so much (I do, too), but what I don't get is trying to defund an organization that provides much needed reproductive health care to women, an organization that works very hard to prevent unwanted pregnancies, and works to save women's lives.

What I especially like about Planned Parenthood is that they provide education and health care without proselytizing, something that I'm willing to bet doesn't occur at all the other non-profit family planning agencies. I know that information given to women at Planned Parenthood is science-based and factual, not intended to mislead women, which I know is not the case for some of the other agencies.

What I would ask people is to donate to agencies of their choosing, but please, stop demonizing Planned Parenthood and stop trying to shut them down. They are working very hard to decrease the amount of abortions in this country.

To be clear, I get it is a big deal... it is for me and for liberals as well. We just believe the choice lies with the individual, and not with society. Support the things I mentioned, support caring for children after they are born (while I don't imply you support such positions, the right does make a lot of noise about cutting education, school lunch programmes, health care, unemployment, welfare, and so on.)
