Teresa Heinz-Kerry: Teaching Not a "Real Job"

In a USA Today interview, Mrs. Heinz-Kerry had this to say:

Q: You'd be different from Laura Bush?

A: Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that she's ever had a real job — I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things. And I'm older, and my validation of what I do and what I believe and my experience is a little bit bigger — because I'm older, and I've had different experiences. And it's not a criticism of her. It's just, you know, what life is about.

Interesting why did you chose to leave this out? It was also in the link you gave.

Teresa Heinz Kerry apologizes for Laura Bush comment

WASHINGTON (AP) — Teresa Heinz Kerry told a newspaper she doesn't know if Laura Bush has ever had "a real job." She apologized Wednesday for having forgotten about the first lady's 10-year stint as a schoolteacher and librarian.

Why must we keep bashing Kerry, Bush and their families? This country is so divided. What ever happened to civility? Can't we keep to the issues and keep the hateful comments out of it.

Sorry I'll get off of my soapbox now. I'm just so discussed by the tactic of this year's campaign.

I'm not surprised she said that. Remember, she also called people "idiots" for not agreeing with her dh's plan for healthcare.

This is what she said in her apology:

"I had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a school teacher and librarian, and there couldn't be a more important job than teaching our children. As someone who has been both a full time mom and full time in workforce, I know we all have valuable experiences that shape who we are. I appreciate and honor Mrs. Bush's service to the country as First Lady, and am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her important work in the past."

Since she only gives her credit for her "work" in the past, before she was a full time mom, I guess not. Apparently, being a SAHM is a "valuable experience."
