So here we go. Are the true colors of the Tea Party/GOP coming out? In addition to banning Gays from teaching, Jim Demint believes that single women and especially ones who are unwed and pregnant, should not teach school, because of their lack of morals. He had no such standards for single men though. Nor did he propose how he would determine if a single woman was chaste enough to teach children, should she be given the chance in his world.

What is with these guys? What's next, will they require a virginity test as a requirement of employment?

He doesn't want you to teach, because he knows what you do with your boyfriend when you're not in the classroom! :smileysurprised:

The candidates were questioned about a state Republican Party platform item saying gays should not teach in public schools.

"I don't think they should," DeMint said then, adding that government should not endorse particular behaviors. "We need the folks that are teaching in schools to represent our values."

"I would have given the same answer when asked if a single woman, who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend, should be hired to teach my third grade children," said DeMint, who apologized a day later for that particular remark. "I just think the moral decisions are different with a teacher."

Yes, maybe a little over the line, but no biggy. I'd be fine with a teacher that kept their sexuality to themselves, but I wouldn't want a teacher that made it obvious that they were gay teaching my kids. Same with the pregnant women... no need to let the kids know that you are not married, keep that personal.

"Resist, we much. We must, and we much. About that, be committed."

What would be so wrong with knowing their teacher was pregnant and not married? I'd bet half the kids in the class come from homes

I have no need for anger
With intimate strangers
And I got nothing to hide

Yes, since it seems to be about what people do in their bedrooms, wouldn't the children wonder how someone got pregnant regardless of their martial status?
