Too often, individuals take credit without realizing that their efforts ALONE would not have made them successful. Arrogance and ignorance is no better than passivity and over-reliance on the efforts of others.

Really?  Look at the GOP platform on abortion (here's a hint, it totally ignores Roe v Wade, except as a case to be overturned).

Then there's the insanity of insurance covering male performance enhancing drugs but not contraception for women.  Oh, say the loopy, that's an infringement on religious beliefs.  Nobody is compelling a woman to use contraception, only to make it cheap and easy to access which would then probably result in fewer unplanned pregnancies and abortions.  Yet the loopy do NOT perceive the linkage, which does tend to make one think that they believe that women are not meant to control any aspect of their reproduction.

Ever heard of the Guttmacher Institute?  They track the many legislative actions (by conservatives/Republicans) to limit or totally eliminate abortion services.  Look up the personhood definition now being espoused by those same people.  A clump of cells has more rights than a fully sentient woman.  Maybe you're not aware of these developments but they do exist.

It's not "war" in the literal sense of the word, but maybe you can come up with a term which expresses how women are being treated as though they don't quite have the same rights and privileges as men.  I am remembering Rush Limbaugh's screed against Sandra Fluke.  He exemplifies the more misogynistic wing of the GOP.  Unfortunately, that wing seems to be getting more active and more vocal.

No, women don't want government to take care of them. They want to be in control of their bodies and make their own choices.

Government's role is to ensure that laws are not made that prevent women from making choices...protecting their civil rights. That's government's role.

Nonsense. You show us the legislation which will " bail you out if you can't pay your debts".

As for consumer spending, I am remembering vividly a president who encouraged the nation to go out and buy stuff in order to "stimulate" the economy all while he cut taxes and waged "pre-emptive" war. Until we have worked our way back to the point where we produce goods and services, IN THIS COUNTRY, which we use and the rest of the world desires, consumer spending will be the engine which pulls our economy along.

Huh. Netanyahu would LOVE is for us to fight his battles. If he wants to protect his country, let him do so with his country's resources, not ours.
