<<i think you are talking about "flat tax">>
i think so too, but if the flat tax is fair, then what the heck is the fair tax? lol i have no clue.
<
the context i meant was that i was saying that if costs go up, everyone's taxes should go up, and if costs go down, everyone's taxes should go down.....that would be fair....and that is what JM is doing, where as BO is being unfair per that logic by reducing taxes for some by increasing taxes to others.>>
-yes, i agree that it wouldnt work because i told know if we could find a percentage that doesnt seriously hurt some economic groups while still bringing in enough money that the country needs. but i dont really know so if anyone could explain how this could work i would love to hear it.
-how do you know that is what mccain is doing? according to his site he is keeping the top bracket at 35% (not raising them) and it doesnt even mention the other brackets. even if that is his plan, it may be fair if he raises taxes proportionally to the rise in costs. but
"knjes" is, it has been brought up to me in a previous post that our kids look alike.
lol i remember that......as if there couldn't possibly be more than one well spoken republican with a cute little baby....

I don't think that it is considered a punishment by those who are proposing it.
I think the concept is "Looking at what everyone makes, looking at what will be put back into the economy v. what will be set aside as 'untouchable', and looking at what portion of person's wages are eaten by inflation, if we had to raise taxes, who would be the least HURT by this?
So this is an issue I find really interesting. I haven't supported the war from the start - like many here thought it was the wrong war for the wrong reasons. However, we went in and turned Iraq on its ear and it is our responsibility and in our national security interests to ensure that it is secure before we leave. I would like that to be ASAP, as I hate that we are bleeding lives along with the billions and billions of dollars. My problem is, I have no idea what the best way to leave Iraq responsibly without bankrupting our country or putting our future national security at risk. I don't think anyone knows.
I am curious how others are deciding what the "right" path is in such a complex and mired situation?
I fear that McCain is re-fighting Vietnam in a way, saying we should do in Iraq what he believes should have been done in Vietnam. And you know what, he could be right. At this point, we're there and he could be right about what needs to happen next. But I don't know how to judge what would work. I have to rely on whose philosophies and judgment I trust more, rather than which plan I think would work because I have no idea what plan will work.
I agree with Obama that we never should have been in Iraq and need to get out ASAP. I don't think he will just withdraw if things start to crumble or if a faction takes over that would ultimately be more dangerous (ala the Taliban in Afghanistan - see the movie Charlie Wilson's War for the basic history there) were to come into power. And he has said as much. I also think he'd ensure there were strong diplomatic ties. So his general philosophy and approach are what I agree with, not a specific plan. And I don't think he can say now exactly what he would do (nor do I think McCain can or does) because it's not possible to imagine every if..than situation.
"Looking out for number one is a bit played out don't you think?

<<You know another bit about McCain's plan that bothers me?
ok....i can agree that neither plan is entirely fair....
but i think JM's is closer to fair....while i would still be OK with

i am using this as my guide for most of what i have been talking about today.
