I'm not trying to be smart, or snarky, or anything like that.

That's one opinion. McCain wanting to win is putting pretty words to a unwinnable situation(IMO).

If you believe the wealthy should pay higher taxes, they should pay higher taxes just for the sake of it, not because you think their money is going to a good cause.

except I don't find his words pretty -- just more realistic.

I don't believe he can safely (safely for the troops) phase out all of them over 16 months.

I don't think this will work even if he manages to pull of the above:

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel.

and I don't know how THIS fits in with the first two (or even what it means per say):

Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that the U.S. must apply pressure on the Iraqi government to work toward real political accommodation

I don't agree with the war, but either way works for me. Tax them to support OUR country, if they wont do that, then tax them to pay for the war ( we shouldnt be in) so we at least have a way to pay for it. Then when our troops FINALY come home, the taxes can then be used HERE.

Obviously the phase out is going to depend on the conditions in Iraq from month to month , week to week, and even day to day, but a 16 month timetable can be a realistic goal. It is also a goal that has been supported by the Iraqi PM, military officials, and even John McCain himself. Of Obama's 16 month phased withdraw, McCain said, "I think it's a pretty good timetable."

"Why would it make me happy to have someone else pay for a war I don't support."
