I'm not trying to be smart, or snarky, or anything like that.

are you serious?
did you not realize that BO plans to increase tax to the rich, and decrease tax to the not so rich?
that is redistribution of funds
actually, he takes it one step lower and says he will "spread teh wealth around

Yes, I am quite serious.

have you not been paying attention to the charts showing graphically how each candidate will affect the tax bill for each bracket?
BO's plan will give some people more money at tax time, and take more from others....that is a redistribution...
if it was only about closing loopholes, and cutting costs, than everyone would see a reduction (as it is under JM's plan)
and if you are under the $227k mark, you WILL be seeing more money, regardless of wether you need it or not....where did that money come from...from increased taxes to the rich...

it is a robin hood scheme, or he wouldn't be increasing the taxes to the rich, whhile reducing taxes to everyone else.
we already have a graduated (progressive) tax system, so if costs did go up, it would only be fair to raise them wholesale, or reduce them wholesale...not selectively.

It would
How is it responsible to lower taxes on everyone at a time when our budget deficit is huge? Everyone's taxes should be going up. But realistically, the middle class cant afford to pay more in today's economic climate. So, we spend money to help the middle class, because we understand that the economic health of the middle class is essential for our economy as a whole. And we raise taxes on those who can afford it. And if the middle class has money, then stores (large and small), car companies, restaurants... virtually every business in our country does better, and many of those wealthy people get their money back in increased revenue. If they are getting the money back, it is not redistribution.
"we already have a graduated (progressive) tax system, so if costs did go up, it would only be fair to raise them wholesale, or reduce them wholesale...not selectively."
But the problem is there are so many loopholes, deductions, and ways to shelter money from taxes that only the lowest income brackets actually pay their percentage. Most people in the higher brackets pay less than what their bracket would indicate. DH and I are in a 28% bracket, but we dont actually pay 28% of our income in federal taxes. I dont think I know anyone who makes what we do who actually pays 28%.
So, it isnt as simple as saying we already have a progressive tax system. Because the numbers on those brackets really dont represent what people are actually paying.

who says things ought to be fair? (besides obama, lol)
"Shouldn't we all just try to make our way in life without taking from others?"
I am really shocked by this statement.
