Med students themselves aren't usually federally subsidized, but they have a ton of student loans that have to be paid back.
Teaching hospitals, where doctors get their training, are federally subsidized as I stated before. Conservative women need OB/GYN care and D&Cs as well and I'm sure they'd be horrified if they knew that their doctors weren't going to be trained to take care of them properly.

I got a kick out of the "free to do research" wording which was immediately followed by qualifiers about the nature of that "freedom".

When somebody accuses another of "pretending", it's quite unlikely that accusation will be seen in a positive light.
