Our Country ia in a shambles, we have lost respect from other countries, and we have given Bin Laden exactly what he wanted to see happen to the US. I can't see how either candidate can correct the MESS that Bush has gotten us into. Sad thing is Bush doesn't think he has done anything wrong!
i believe political promises are just that: what they would LIKE to do in a perfect world.
but our government is far from a perfect world. and some of the reasons are good. the checks and balances we have in place mean all needs should be considered and all voices heard. but in the end, the system results in:
1) time - even for those promises we agree on 2) money - which may look like is available but the reality is that it is not or there is not as much as expected 3) quarreling and stalemates - for any promise that doesn't meet the goals of both parties, it's going to get bogged down in the legislature 4) compromise - which is a good thing in general but can hobble a promise so that it doesn't look the same in the end
i view campaign promises as the "concept" that guides the candidates. if they don't start with a concept, they have no where to go - so at least i can see where they would hope to be, what will guide their decisions, what they would be willing to fight for.
that's a long way of saying: i don't count on campaign promises coming true - not because candidates lie but because there are too many obstacles to implementation.

My only solace is that Clinton did it.
