Where are Beck, Hannity and the other right wing hatemongers protecting Hallowed Ground? Oh yeah, this isn't important because number 1 they don't get to bash Muslims and number 2, someone wants to make money on this, so it's ok as far as the right wing is concerned......

The Gettysburg Legacy - Saying No to a Gettysburg Casino
by Civil War Preservation Trust (videos) 9:15

Filmmaker Ken Burns, author David McCullough, actors Sam Waterston, Matthew Broderick, Stephen Lang, Medal of Honor recipient Paul W. Bucha, President Eisenhower’s granddaughter Susan Eisenhower and even a haunting score by Oscar-winning composer John Williams made appearances via video at the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) hearing this morning in Gettysburg.

Susan Star Paddock, chair of the grassroots group No Casino Gettysburg, turned the Comfort Suites conference room in Gettysburg into a movie theatre for her 10-minute testimony. The professional quality video, prepared entirely by volunteers, is a plea to the PGCB to deny a license for a casino just ½ mile from the boundary of the Gettysburg National Military Park.

You missed the point entirely - the local community, the people who live/work in and around the site - voted FOR the center in NYC and FOR the casino in Gettysburg. In the case of NYC it was people OUTSIDE the community that began the protesting. It we are going to say that the whole of America gets to determine what is or isn't built on a location in one community then we really have to change zoning laws don't we?

I actually do know the history of Las Vegas...I don't think that's a very good example. (*ducking down*...sorry) :-)

I haven't been to either...would like to at some point. I don't understand why WTC hallowed ground is more "hallowed" than Gettysburg.

That was only AFTER Geller and her ilk started their campaign of hate against Muslims and it spread throughout the country. Shameful is what it is.

Because people have opinions about the mosque being built there isn't obstructing it from being built, it is voicing their opinions.

I know you keep blaming Geller...I don't know who that is.

You should really check out who she is since that's where the anti-Muslim/anti-mosque stuff started. There wasn't a problem with it until Geller and friends kicked it up a notch. If one is going to jump on the bandwagon, one should really see if it's something they want to be associated with.

Here's her website: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/

You have made the association that everyone seemed to get their feelings from this person.

I don't think that people get their feelings from her, but they wouldn't have known about the community center/mosque were it not for her hard work going to the mainstream media (yes Foxnews, highest viewership for a news network is mainstream). She went on local NY television stations, CNN, MSNBC, etc. Some of what she said was inaccurate and misleading. She said the imam as in cahoots with Hamas. She intimated that somehow terrorist money would be used in building the community center/mosque. The furor went from there. Until her campaign to stop the community center/mosque, the local board (those who live in that neighborhood) had voted overwhelming in favor of its construction. Now the question is why she isn't doing the same type of thing to prevent the casino in Gettysburg. After all, it is near hallowed ground also.

As far as I know the local board voted before in favor and after she spoke in favor...kind of proves that people didn't change because of what she said.
