I got this as a joke.....but if it's true then how funny is it?!?!?

Wacky Americans

- We yell for the Government to balance the budget, then take the last dime we have to make the down payment on a car.

- We whip the enemy in battle, then give them the shirt off our backs.

- We yell for speed laws that will stop fast driving, then won't buy a car if it can't go over 100 miles an hour.

- Americans get scared to death if we vote a billion dollars for education, then are unconcerned when we find out we are spending three billion dollars a year for cigarettes.

- We know the line-up of every baseball team in the American and National Leagues but don't know half the words in the "Star Spangled Banner".

- We'll spend half a day looking for vitamin pills to make us live longer, then drive 90 miles an hour on slick pavement to make up for lost time.

- We tie up our dog while letting our sixteen year old son run wild.

I get the joke, too - but what's not funny, and quite unfortunate, is that it's true.

It is sad that the "joke" is on us.

I sang the National Anthem over and over and over to my kids and made them learn it. I find it disgraceful that Americans don't know it.

Funny, I just read a huge report on how homeschooled children may be undermining the social fabric of our country because they are not taught how to be proper citizens. I took extreme issue with that statement, because I homeschool. I have bent over backwards to educate my children about voting, civic responsibility, community work and democratic principles.

I wonder how many teachers go out of their way to do the same.

Mine too.......every day after the flag salute, they sing either the National Anthem or another patriotic song (Grand Old Flag, America the Beautiful, etc.).

>>the teachers just feel they aren't paid enough to do anything but the bare minimum.<<

Or are forced to spend the majority of their class time "skill drilling" for the constant standardized testing...

Hmmmmm...nice try, but I don't think so....

His defense was that the National Anthem was playing......

Title 36 or the U.S. Code, which states the following:

During a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart;

Now I'll admit that those pictured ALL have their backs to the flag; however, they said the event in question had flags all over the place...so it's safe to assume they WERE facing a flag that was placed in front of them.
