Wacky Americans
- We yell for the Government to balance the budget, then take the last dime we have to make the down payment on a car.
- We whip the enemy in battle, then give them the shirt off our backs.
- We yell for speed laws that will stop fast driving, then won't buy a car if it can't go over 100 miles an hour.
- Americans get scared to death if we vote a billion dollars for education, then are unconcerned when we find out we are spending three billion dollars a year for cigarettes.
- We know the line-up of every baseball team in the American and National Leagues but don't know half the words in the "Star Spangled Banner".
- We'll spend half a day looking for vitamin pills to make us live longer, then drive 90 miles an hour on slick pavement to make up for lost time.
- We tie up our dog while letting our sixteen year old son run wild.

I pay taxes like everyone else. I don't wish to use the public education system. I am not debating that homeschoolers should have a right to use public school as they choose. I do not agree with allowing the attendance record of MY child to influence funding for the schools. I know the schools need funding, I am not debating any of that. I just think that homeschoolers should stay out of the public system because all it does it cause problems for everyone. I had no idea that this is how it all happened. I don't understand the logic, but then that is how government works...one party gets what they want, the other party makes them pay for it. It is so petty - but it's our government hard at work, it's not meant to make sense.
I live in an inner city school district and
Be ashamed of me then because I have much bigger fish to fry. I am sorry that I can not find time to help with the public/political policy. It just seems to me that because there are so many in the school system that they should work towards changing the attitudes of the ones who are not civic minded. There are more in the system than not so why do homeschoolers need to spin their wheels along with the rest? I mean really --- if I had time for that I would spend it trying to get something for homeschoolers - like a tax break......

Okay, forget all that, I change my mind. What can I do. I'll start with a letter. Help me understand how it got this way to begin with. I got this much of it ---
Homeschoolers wanted to join sports teams so the government decided to create a law to harm their own school-children???
I'm serious, you all help me understand and I'll get other homeschoolers to understand and we'll work together.
Let's start with: How did this happen?
>>There are more in the system than not so why do homeschoolers need to spin their wheels along with the rest? <<
Because good social policy around education benefits all of us.
Thanks for the site. We have a great website for the school system here - I'll take the time to read and research the information. I really want to understand how it happened where we take money away based on homeschool students not attending. That is just wrong!
I will take the time to write a letter or two and also spread this information, others do not know about this I'm sure. I knew about it because my Aunt won't let me forget that I'm taking money away from the poor kids at the school down the road - which happens to be one of the worst in the state. I have to be honest and say I'm sorry though, like all parents, I have my priorities. I will make this one of them, although it may only be a minute amount of time, I will give it some of my time when I can. I'll post about it on the Education Debate board if I ever need help or better understanding or have anything to report.
In the meanwhile, does anyone know if this is because of a federal policy and does it happen in all states?
Schooling, with the exception of a few areas really is a state issue.
Your argument is that paying property taxes doesn't cover the expense of educating a child.
And, once again, a homeschooled child brings exactly $0 money INTO the school district.
