recession was OVER.

I guess this is Mr. Obama's "mission accomplished" moment!

It technically has been over since last year. Problem is, rampant unemployment/underemployment makes this a near-jobless recovery. These are bad times. If things don't turn around for us, my own DH will file for unemployment next month, so he'll be added to the unemployment rolls.

"It technically has been over since last year"

Exactly, just as "technically" the mission was accomplished when Bush Landed on that aircraft carrier :(

The numbers of unemployed (whether or not they get unemployment benefits) will rise as people who've just sat out (gave up looking for new work) this recession, start considering themselves to be looking for work. Robert Reich said that he thinks unemployment figures could reach 10.2 percent come January/February if the majority of people who've given up, now start looking for work.

When economists indicate that a recession is over, they mean that the economic indicators they follow have bottomed-out. If economic activity is viewed as the letter "U," we've passed the bottom of the trough and started back up the right side of the U.

No but thanks anyway. And as I said, much like a "mission accomplished" statement when the "war" was far from over!

Again...hated it when Bush did it, Hate it that the Obama team is even spouting it too!

Not to get off on a total tangent, but there's more proof that Bush was right, the Mission he had set out to accomplish had been accomplished. We can all agree that stability and security in Iraq had not been achieved and the war actually escalated after he landed on that aircraft carrier. But that's because we were caught in the middle of a civil war, with a growing insurgency, in an unstable, ungoverned piece of land.

Thanks for posting that. It is nice to know that the docs are now available to back what many of us knew back then.

Though I wasn't a supporter of the war, I have long argued that we should have at least left after "Mission Accomplished".

It was pointed out to me today by a colleague that the Obama Stimulus wasn't instituted until June of '09.

Make me wonder what the stimulus has actually done and how long Obama and Biden are going to continue to spout their nonsense of how the stimulus is what 'turned the economy around after Bush and the Republicans ruined it' (paraphrased).

Thank God that Saddam Hussein is gone and the people of Iraq no longer have to live under his dictatorship or the fear that he may use chemical weapons on them, like he did on more than 5000 Kurdish with the total Kurdish murder by him of more that 50,000. It was a good mission accomplished in this gal's opinion!
