That was such a sad story. But her not having health insurance and turning her story into a crusade for UHC is wrong, IMO.

Why? The tragedy isn't just her death, and it isn't just with her. Everyone should be covered, and we can make it happen. The reason it hasn't yet is some very powerful individuals make a fortune off the current system, and they haven't yet figured out how to do so under any significant reform.

Because every situation is unique and there shouldn't be one standard of care for everyone. Are the causes why people don't have insurance all the same.. Probably not... And what about us who pay enough out of pocket as it is, what would changes to the system mean to me?

edited to clarify, I'm in favor of everyone being insured too.

I can design ways of providing coverage to everyone that does not take away things like right to choose our provider, but in terms of coverage... why shouldn't we afford the same coverage to everyone?

Start out with the covering everyone and removing it from the backs of employers, and we can design from there.

Because not all needs are alike, We get to pick a plan right for us with a higher deductible so we don't pay so much out of our pocket at the hosptial or doctor's office, for example. Our rx plan is different than someone elses too. Those options should be there, IMO. If you're saying that should be scratched and employers removed from offsetting some of the cost then you're going to have to show me the difference in dollar signs because it sounds more expensive.
