If McCain wins despite the Polls

The polls are tightening even though they've showed Obama ahead for a few weeks.

But I think McCain just might pull it off.

I think if Obama loses, the Democratic Party will have to do some serious soul-searching to identify why people are rejecting their message.

If it does happen, there will have been 3 elections where I think the Democrats had a better shot and blew it-- 2000, 2004, 2008.

In 2000 and 2004, people could blame the messenger. After all, Gore and Kerry were hardly charismatic. I had a particular problem with Gore. I mean, who tries to distance himself from a president with high approval ratings? Especially when you've been his number 2 for years? Made no sense to me.

But now, they have a very efficient messenger. Obama is able to draw huge crowds, and he energized groups of people. Not only that, but you've got an unpopular Republican president everyone's angry with, two very unpopular wars, and the economy tanked. If he loses, I think it can only be attributed to the Democratic message.

I'm an independent, and have always been. I voted Bush in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. I would have voted for Clinton had I been old enough. I think the government is broken, and to me it makes no sense to "change" it by making it bigger, and I have yet to hear anything in Obama's platform that has any solutions to my every day problems that don't involve bigger government, or the government stepping in. In my opinion, if he loses it will be because a lot of people have a problem with the message.

"If McCain wins I don't think it will be b/c he actually won over voters but rather b/c he was able to scare people into not voting for Obama. "

I agree.

Even if he does lose...given his draw, and the splintering of the Republican party, do you thing Republicans will step up to do the same?

I know you didn't ask me, but I also think Obama hasn't been forthcoming with his background, and it bothers me. I honestly believe that the truth of these might not be a big deal- but it bothers me that he hid these things.

1. The birth certificate thing. I believe Obama is a citizen. So, why not just show the stupid piece of paper? Why have the Gov. of Hawaii seal the record? If you have nothing to hide, then just show us. And if you do...then maybe you shouldn't be president. I just don't understand why he can't just unseal the record and have it done with.

2. His associations: Why not just tell the truth from the very beginning? With Wright, for example. I don't for one

"Obama's not the only candidate to play hardball with the press. McCain's campaign has reportedly barred columnists Joe Klein and Maureen Dowd, who have been critical of the Republican candidate, from its campaign plane."

Guess it can go both ways.

If McCain wins, I will not attribute it to the popular vote. I do not at all see how McCain can win the popular vote at this point. Instead, it would be due to the fact that he somehow manages to win enough swing states and hang on to those already in his column to win the electoral vote. And as we all know, that's all that matters.

That's why he went on Bill O'Reilly, right?

I have made judgements on my own.

Simply put I don't feel that Obama is
